The EC-funded MoveS network (Free Movement and Social Security Coordination) organised a seminar in Salzburg (Austria) on Wednesday, 11 June 2025.
The seminar was organised by MoveS in collaboration with its Austrian national expert prof. Elias Felten. MoveS is an EC-funded network of independent experts from 32 European countries coordinated by Eftheia and Deloitte.
The Austrian MoveS-seminar, which took place on June 11, 2025, at the University of Salzburg, focused on the overarching theme of "New Developments in European Social Security Law" and was structured into three thematic blocks:
The morning session examined current developments at the European level, with a particular focus on the reform activities of the European Commission and the latest case law of the European Court of Justice. Additionally, key developments on a national level were analysed and discussed from a practical perspective.
The afternoon session was dedicated to two thematic priorities of central importance for Austria. Firstly, the issue of access to social benefits for inactive EU citizens was addressed in light of the case law of the European Court of Justice and the Austrian Supreme Court. Secondly, the coordination of long-term care benefits in the case law of the ECJ, as well as reform considerations regarding long-term care benefits on European level, were presented and discussed.
